The National Flag of the People’s Republic of China is the Five-starred Red Flag (五星红旗). ● The red color of the flag symbolizes (象征) revolution and the yellow color of the stars is the symbol of the golden brilliant rays (灿烂的光芒) radiating (放射/照射) from the vast red land. The design of four smaller stars surrounding a big one signifies (象征；代表) the unity of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Commu-nist Party of China (CPC). The National Emblem of the PRC (国徽): ● The emblem was designed by Liang Sicheng (梁思成—— 1901.04.20-1972.01.09，其父为清末思想家、社会活动家梁启 超，广东新会县人), a famous architect (建筑学家), in a competition held at the founding of the People’s Republic of China and was determined as the National Emblem (Sept. 20, 1950) by the Central People’s Government. The emblem contains a representation of Tian An Men Gate, the entrance gate of the Forbidden City from the Tian An Men Square in Beijing in a red circle. Above Tian An Men are the five stars found on the national flag, which represent the union of Chinese peoples. The circle,has a border that contains sheaves (束；捆) of wheat (小麦) as symbols of farmers, at the center of the bottom portion of the border is a cog-wheel that represents the industrial workers. The wheat and cog-wheel are decorated by red ribbons which also offer balance to the emblem. (国徽由著名建筑学家梁思成设计。

The National Anthem of the PRC (国歌): ● The national anthem of the People’s Republic of China is “the March of the Volunteers” (《义勇军进行曲》) with lyrics (歌词) by Tian Han (田汉——1898-1968, one of the best-known dramatists, novelists & critics in modern China) and music by Nie Er (聂耳——1912-1935, a music genius in modern China). It was completed in 1932. In 1935 the Japanese invaded (侵入) China. This song played a great role in arousing the Chinese people’s patriotic spirit to rise against the Japanese aggressors (侵略者) and defend the country. Therefore, it was made the tentative (暂时 的) national anthem (代国歌) in September 1949. On December 4, 1982, the National People’s Congress adopted the resolution on the People’s Republic of Chi- na’s national anthem. From then on, “the March of the Volunteer” became the national anthem of the PRC.,【中华人民共和国的国歌为《义勇军进行曲》。
