A bounty hunters main job is to catch fugitives for an amount of money as a reward.

7、A fugitive is a person who is running away to avoid punishment. Theyve gone missing and are probably on their way to the Mexican or Canadian border. The bounty hunter must find the fugitive and bring them back.The bounty hunter has to work quickly. They will check up on the fugitives friends, family and workmates to try to find a lead. They may also get in touch with underground criminal(罪犯的) movements to see if anyone can tell them something about the fugitive. Sometimes they get lucky, other t

8、imes they have to be patient.Making the arrest(逮捕) is the hardest part of the job. In some cases, the fugitive has no intention of returning to the legal system. They may face a life in prison and will do anything to avoid that. The bounty hunter has to prepare the ground carefully so the arrest can be made as smoothly as possible.One of the most famous bounty hunters from the 19th century was John Riley Duncan (1850-1911). He was a Texas lawman who was most famous for his part in catching Wes H

9、ardin(1853-1895). Hardin was a tough gunman who had killed over thirty men.John Duncan joined the Texas Rangers in July 1877. The Texas Rangers were (and still are) an organization working to catch fugitives. Duncan found out that Hardin and several of his friends had bought tickets for a train leaving from Pensacola station in Florida. On August 24, Duncan placed his men in key positions in the train and around the station. After a fight, Hardin was caught, but one of his mates (Jim Mann) was killed. Later, Hardin was transported by train back to Texas. In the end, he served 17 years in prison for his crimes. Duncan ended his service with the Texas Rangers shortly after arresting Hardin, and spent th
