Because he is the first Chinese athlete to take Olympic gold in the short distance race, which used to be dominated (占据) by Americans and Europeans. He also became the first Asian(亚洲人) in history to win the mens 110m hurdles (男子110米跳栏)at the Olympic Games in Athens on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004. 8Gao Ling(高凌): She took up badminton in Wuhan at age of 6, and began regular training in Hubei provincial sports school in 1989 and joined the national team in February 1997. She and Zhang Jun(张军) became the Olympic champion of the mixed doubles in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games (悉尼奥运会). Again, Gao Ling and Zhang Jun won the mixed doubles and became the Olympic champion in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games9Guo Jingjing(郭晶晶): She was born in the province of Hubei. She won diving competitions at every level as a youngster(少年), and has won almost every honor available in the world of diving.
