Unit Five Picture-cued Conversations中国人民大学出版社中国人民大学出版社Section OneMaking Up a StoryDirections:Step 1.Divide the class into pairs or groups of 3,and have the students sit side by side.Step 2.Look at one picture at a time and work together to make up a story from it.Step 3.Tell your story to the class.Step 4.Decide whose story in the class is the most imaginative one.Activity 5-1-1 To find your first picture,turn to Activity 5-1-1 on Page 87.To find your second picture,turn to Activity 5-1-2 on Page 88.Section TwoFinding the Differences Activity 5-2-1 Directions:Step 1.Divide the class into pairs,and have the two students sit across from each other.Step 2.You both have similar pictures,but there are several differences.You and your partner have to ask each other questions until you find these differences.Do not look at your partners picture!Step 3.When you have finished,look at your partners picture,and check whether you both have found all the differences.Student A:To find your picture,turn to Communication Activity 10 on Page 206.Student B:To find your picture,turn to Communication Activity 47 on Page 216.Section ThreeMemory TestsDirections:Step 1.Divide the class into pairs,and have the two students sit across from each other.Step 2.Allow your partner to look at the first picture for 30 seconds.Step 3.Close your partners book and have him/her tell you as many things as he/she can remember.While looking at the picture,you can check the things in the picture that your partner can remember.After your partner tells you all he/she can remember,tell him/her what he/she might have failed to mention.Activity 5-3-1 To find the picture,turn to Communication Activity 28 on Page 211.Activity 5-3-2 Try another picture.This time,change roles and have your partner follow the same rules as you did in Step 2 to 3.To find the picture,turn to Communication Activity 42 on Page 215.Section FourDrawing a PictureDirections:Step 1.Divide the class into pairs,and have the two students sit across from each other.Step 2.Choose a picture and describe it to your partner.Your partner should draw a copy of the picture according to your description.You are only allowed to describe the picture verbally.Do not show the picture to your partner and do not point.Note:If there are three students in a group,one student describes the picture and the other two draw the picture individually.Step 3.If your partner finds your description unclear,he/she can ask you questions.Step 4.After your partner has completed the drawing,show him/her the original picture.Compare the reproduced picture with the original one and discuss any differences with your partner.Useful expressions you may use are on Page90:There is a There are You can see in front of in the middle of next to/beside at the back of on the edge of in the corner of on top of above/over below/underneath (in)between behind to the left/right of on the extreme left/right around the top left-hand corner around the top right-hand corner around the bottom left-hand corner around the bottom right-hand cornerActivity 5-4-1 To find the picture,turn to Communication Activity 14 on Page 207.Dont show it to your partner until he/she has finished drawing the picture.Activity 5-4-2 Try another picture.This time change roles so that your partner can choose a new picture and describe it to you.Your partner will follow the same rules as you did in Step 2 to 4.To find the picture,your partner should turn to Communication Activity 1 on Page 203.Your partner should not show the picture to you until you have finished drawing the picture.Activity 5-4-3 To improve your ability in verbal description in English,choose a picture selected from either a newspaper or a magazine for further practice.Thank You!
