STRUCTURE The course normally commences in September of each academic year. The first year is a full-time programme of study at the Institute. The second year of professional development is a one year part-time study mainly conducted in the participants’ schools. The course has three components: 1. Theoretical Studies ??Core Modules ??Specializations Modules: - Education of Children with Learning Difficulties - Education of Mentally Handicapped Children - Education of Visually Impaired Children - Education of Hearing Impaired Children - Education of Children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties - Education of Physically Handicapped Children ??Elective Modules These modules offer the course participants the chance to explore areas of interest relevant to their work, and professional development. 2. Practical Teaching Supervised field experience for all course participants in each year of the programme offer the opportunity to link theory and practice in an educational setting. 3. Professional Development The second year consists of an action research project in the participants’ own working environment. Admissions Handbook for Professional Training Courses for In-service Teachers 在職教師專業培訓課程入學申請手冊 Primary Education 2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applicants should be: 1. qualified teachers (non-graduate or graduate) with recognized initial teacher training qualification for primary or secondary schools; 2. employed on a full-time permanent basis to teach children with special needs in education (SNE) in special schools, practical schools, skills opportunity schools, boys’/girls’ centres, special education classes, intensive remedial teaching programmes in primary schools or holding posts of responsibility as resource teachers in primary or secondary schools; and 3. recommended by Supervisor or School Head to attend the course. OTHER INFORMATION Area of Specialization Course participants would normally be expected to select specialist modules in areas relevant to their work. Replacement Teachers Schools releasing in-service teachers to undertake this course may apply to the Government for provision to appoint supply teachers. For details, please contact the Regional Education Office of the Education Department concerned. Signing of Undertaking Course participants who are granted full-pay study leave to undertake the course are required to sign an undertaking with the Government. Details are available from the Regional Education Office of the Education Department concerned.
