Change the program cardAll the functions of the tester are controlled by the software of the program card. The program card is the size of a cheque card. When new vehicles come onto the market, the software for the tester has to be updated. The program card then has to be changed.Caution: You must not remove or insert the program card unless the power has been switched off, in other words when the diagnostic cable is not connected to the vehicle! [2]Please do not touch the contacts of the program card! And please also avoid static charges!Please perform the following steps to change the program card: 1 Remove the cover for the slot of the program card on the right-hand side of the housing (see fig. 1, number 3). Slacken the Phillips screw for this purpose! 2 Take hold of the tab on the sticker and pull the card out to the right. 3 Insert the new program card into the slot as far as it will go. Please ensure that you insert the card properly-this is illustrated on the sticker. 4 Now, push the tab of the sticker in and up and close the cover of the slot.5 Switch on the power supply of the tester. 6 Select operating mode 3. The tester starts by performing a self-test. If the self-test is completed without any fault, the old program card is no longer needed.2. Connect the testerThe tester is equipped with a reverse polarity protection for the power supply through the diagnostic cable. Nevertheless, the input and output stages of the tester are only reliably protected if the diagnostic cable is correctly connected.For this reason, when connecting the diagnostic cable V.A.G 1551/1 and also diagnostic cable 1551/3, always keep to a certain sequence as follows:With the diagnostic cable V.A.G 1551/1:1）Plug the black connector of the diagnosis tester into the black flat-contact socket in the vehicle.2）Pay attention to the readout in the display. The following text must be displayed;Vehicle system test HELPEnter address word XXIf this readout does not appear in the display: Do not plug in the white connector! Either the polarity of the power supply to the tester is reversed or there is no power.3）Check the voltage at the black flat-contact socket in the vehicle (see letter A in figure 2) and pay attention to the polarity to avoid incorrect polarity!
