IntroductionTalk shows are a type of TV program in which the host and the guest communicate with each other, talking about the daily life or exchanging opinions about the current events. The host and the guest usually do not prepare drafts in advance, reflecting on the topic flexibly, so talk shows win tremendous popularity. The origin of talk shows can date back to the coffee bar gathering in England in the 18th century, where people talked about all kinds of social issues. However, talk shows really gained great developments in America. In the 20th century, as radios turned up and people were enthusiastic about common gathering, more and more people took interest in radios, the new media, which accelerated the emergence of talk shows. But at that time, talk shows all followed such a format: an expert was expressing his views about an event and the audience were just listening. From 1993, a great many new forms gradually appeared in America and the audience had chance to take part in the discussion on the topics which always focused on hot social issues. Since the 1980s, talk shows have become a kind of fashion and exerted great influence on society. In America, talk show programs account for forty percent of all the TV programs.Compared with American talk shows, Chinese talk shows appeared and developed relatively late. In 1996, the first Chinese talk show program Tell the Truth attracted much attention and was popular for the new performing form and humorous hosting style. Since then, more and more talk show programs have appeared on the TV screen. Through continuous adjustment and improvement, Chinese talk show programs are flourishing and prospering.2. Literature ReviewWith the popularization and development of the cross culture, the Chinese and American culture is getting more and more attention. As a kind of program form, talk shows reflect the cultural value of different countries. In recent years, with the rapid development of talk shows, a number of experts and scholars have been devoted to doing research on them, especially on Chinese and American talk shows. There has been a deep study on this issue at abroad and home.2.1 Current Research on Talk Shows Difference in AmeicaMost research on Chinese talk shows focuses on their present situation and developing space. American journalist, Robert Marquand, published an article, in which he quoted the words of Cui Yongyuan, a host of Chinese talk show program Tell the Truth, that “I sometimes have doubts about how long the program can last”. Cui complained that after being on his program, some guests were “punished”.。
