The work we do prior to and in class is critical to the development of our learning community. If you come to class poorly prepared – or don’t come at all – our entire learning community loses. When in class, each of us can expect to fully contribute to support our learning community. Students can expect to complete substantial amounts of reading, research, and group work during the course. TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES As the assigned teacher for this course, my paramount responsibility is to facilitate an active learning community. My belief is that we’re all members of the learning community and share responsibility for co-creating the learning community. My responsibility as the facilitator is to be prepared to fully engage in the classroom experience and come to class fully prepared to ask questions, contribute to topics under examination, and complete the readings with you. In addition, I will strive to facilitate a community built on respect, shared responsibility for learning, and openness to diverse perspectives.GRADING POLICIES AND LEARNING ASSESSMENTS Points A 96 – 100% C+ 80 – 81.99% Participation 20 A- 93 – 95.99% C 76 – 79.99% Individual Presentation 15 B+ 90 – 92.99% C- 72 – 75.99% Project Presentation 15 B 86 – 89.99% D 66 – 71.99% Course Project 50 B- 82 – 85.99% F below 66%Total 100Assessments:Participation (20 points) Because this is a seminar style class, a high level of student engagement is essential to the success of the course.
