他就是云南扫雷部队二队班长马永信不久前,成都军区召开命名大会,授予他“排雷英雄”荣誉称号中越边境大扫雷中扫除的部分地雷 资料,Three decades(十年)of war in Cambodia柬埔寨〔亚洲〕 have left scars in many forms throughout the country. Unfortunately, one of the most lasting legacies(传代物)of the conflicts continues to claim new victims daily.,Read this piece of news about landmines.,In most cases, even the soldiers who planted the mines did not record where they were placed. Now, Cambodia has one of the highest rates of physical disability of any countries in the world.,At the current rate of progress, it may take as many as 100 years to clear all the mines in Cambodia, and the UN estimates that with current technology, it will take nearly 1,100 years to clear all the mines in the world.,This is the situation in Cambodia.,Here and there are the mine signs.,In spite of so many warning signs, there are still many victims.,Robots in the fight against landmines.,,,Pre-reading,What is the main topic of the article? Which part of the text tells you that? —The role of robots in the fight against landmines. The title. 2. Who wrote the article? __Natasha Wesley.,,4. Where is research being done on robots that can find landmines? University(Japan). 5. In which two countries might the robots be used? _Afghanistan and Cambodia.,Reading Task ( P 57 ),Robots in the Fight against Landmines,Where do you probably find the passage ? ---We probably find the passage in a magazine. It is a magazine article. 2. What is the typical structure of this kind of passage ? ----The structure of this kind of passage is as follows : it has a title; the first paragraph runs across the page and is in bold; the main text is in two columns.,3. Who wrote the passage ? --- It was written by Natasha Wesley. 4. What is the purpose of the first paragraph ? ----The first paragraph introduces the topic.,Divide the paragraphs in the two columns into three parts and tell what each part is about. Part 1--- It is slow and dangerous work to remove landmines by hand. Part 2--- Scientists have been working on technological solutions to the landmines problem and have invented a robot to remove landmines,Part 3--- It is better for countries to stop the manufacture and use of landmines. What do the three pictures show you ? Picture 1 --- It shows soldiers removing landmines by hand. Picture 2 --- It shows what the robot invented to do the work look like. Picture 3 --- It is a picture of some survivors who escaped being killed in the explosions of landmines.,Learn to guess the meanings of the new words. Landmines kill or badly injure around 26,000 people every year. There are about 100 million landmines buried just beneath the surface of the ground in 60 countries. …-- who happen to step on them… ------- Landmines are something buried in the ground that can kill or injure people when stepped on.,Careful reading,Answer key for Exercise 2(pag58):,,Introduction: the damage landmines,Most victims are innocent people,Suggested answers to Exercise3(p58),,The problem of landmines,Robots can help find traditional mines,Each year 100,00 removed Each year 2,000,000 buried Difficult and dangerous to remove,Much safer in the hunt for landmines Faster at finding landmines Research at Chiba University,Robots can find plastic mines,World opinion turned against landmines in the 19990s,Experimental robots in production To use r。
