I only know that I sat in my mother`s lap or clung to her dress as she went about her household duties.•-- CHAPTER 2•The journey,which i remember well,was very pleasant.i made friends with many people on the train one lady gave me a box of shalls.My father made holes in these so that i could string them,and for a long time they kept me happy and contened .the conducter , too,was kind.Often when he went his rounds I clung to his coat tails while he collected and punched his ticket.•--CHAPTER 3 •Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog when it seemed as if a tangible white dark shut you in, and the great ship, tense and anxious,groped her way toward the shore with plummet and sounding-line,and you waited with beating heart for something to happend? •-- CHAPTER 4 (7)•1887•I did nothing but explore with my hands and learn the name of every object that i touched ;and the more i handle things and learned their names and uses,the more joyous and confident grew my sene of kinship with the rest of the world•--CHAPTER 5•I had now the key to all language,and i was eager to learn and use it.•--CHAPTER 6•The next important event in my life was my visit to Boston,in May 1888. As if it were yesterday i remember the preparations, the deprture with my teacher and my mother,the journey,and finally the arrival in boston. At dinner it was read to the assembled family, who were surprised that i could write so well.
