Predicted area of difficultyUnderstand the structure and keep a proper attitude towards the Internet.IV. Teaching proceduresStep 1 Lead-in1. T shows the pictures and asks the following three questions:• Who sent the first email and when? (It was sent in 1971 by Ray Tomlinson.)• What did the first webcam film? (A coffee pot outside the office.)• What were emojis, small digital images used to do? (To express ideas or feelings.)2. T leads Ss to talk about the Internet by sharing the following two questions:• What do you often do on the Internet? I use the Internet to search for information that can help me with my homework; to read the latest news; to use the communication software to keep in touch with my friends; to listen to music; to use apps to take photos and play games... I depend a lot on the Internet to keep up to date with what is happening and to arrange my daily life; watching films online in my spare time is one way to entertain myself... • What effects do you think the Internet has on your life? The Internet has a great effect on our life. Without the Internet, our life will be different. 【设计意图:本单元的阅读课文是关于使用互联网的好处。

      在正式进入阅读环节之前,用几张图片和几个问题让学生大致了解一下互联网的发展史,为下一步的阅读做好顺承和铺垫第二步的两个问题更是对学生进行了头脑风暴,让学生在读之前就已经对于使用互联网进行了积极地思考,并在下一步的阅读中有的放矢地去完成任务Step 2 Reading for the structureT asks Ss to underline the topic sentence for each paragraph and complete the chart in A1. Introduction Para. 1: We can achieve almost anything online.Main bodyParas. 2-4: The Internet has many advantages.Advantage 1 (the topic sentence) We have quick and easy access to a huge amount of information online. Advantage 2 (the topic sentence) E-commerce has made our lives unbelievably convenient.Advantage 3 (the topic sentence) The Internet helps us establish and maintain social ties. The Internet: a world without frontiers ConclusionPara. 5: We should use the Internet properly and responsibly.【设计意图:指导学生通过找主题句快速获取段落主旨,以图表方式帮助学生了解语篇的宏观结构,培养学生概括段落大意的能力。

      Step 3 Reading for specific informationT asks Ss to read the article again carefully and complete the table in A2.AdvantagesSupporting detailsAdvantage 1• Having access to (1) a huge amount of information• Gathering information quickly and easilyAdvantage 2• (2) Having food delivered to you• Doing shopping quickly and easily• Ordering a taxi with an app• Making travel arrangements• (3) Paying for almost everything on the smartphoneAdvantage 3• Keeping in contact with loved ones• Finding (4) long-lost friends • Discovering communities who (5) share our hobbies 【设计意图:让学生仔细阅读课文的第二、三、四段,完成A2的表格,从而帮助学生理解细节信息,同时引领学生了解段落主旨(main points)和信息支撑句(supporting sentences or examples)的联系,让学生对段落结构、语篇结构形成深刻的理解。

      Step 4 Discussing and sharing1. T asks Ss to discuss the following questions in groups :• The author believes that the Internet has benefited us in various ways. Can you think of any other examples to support the author’s ideas? • What do you think the problems with the Internet are? Make a list of them.2. T asks Ss to exchange their opinions.3. T makes a summary.Advantages:We can rent bikes and cars using mobile apps to save money and time; We can share films and videos with our loved ones far away from us. ...Disadvantages:Personal information will be stolen; addiction to the Internet may lead to social isolation and depression; Internet viruses can infect and damage our computers and phones. ...【设计意图:通过前面的阅读,学生已经搭建了一定的知识体系。
