These events are usually marked on a school calendar, which students and teachers can use to plan their schedules.In this lesson, we will learn about some of the festivals and important dates that are celebrated in China, as well as their meanings and traditions.Festivals and Important DatesSpring FestivalSpring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important festival in China. It usually falls in January or February, and marks the beginning of the lunar new year.During Spring Festival, people clean their homes, buy new clothes, and prepare special foods. They also give each other red envelopes containing money as a symbol of good luck.Tomb Sweeping DayTomb Sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival, usually falls on April 4th or 5th. It is a day for people to remember their ancestors and pay their respects at their graves.On Tomb Sweeping Day, people typically bring offerings of food and burn incense at the gravesites. They also sweep the tombs and pull weeds, as a way of showing their love and respect for their ancestors.Dragon Boat FestivalDragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, usually in June. It is a day to commemorate the ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in a river as a protest against corruption.On Dragon Boat Festival, people eat rice dumplings and race dragon boats on the river. They also hang up pictures of Qu Yuan and bamboo leaves to ward off evil spirits.Mid-Autumn FestivalMid-Autumn Festival falls on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, usually in September. It is a day to celebrate the harvest and give thanks for the blessings of the year.On Mid-Autumn Festival, people eat mooncakes and admire the full moon. They also light lanterns and have family reunions.National DayNational Day, also known as the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, falls on October 1st. It is a day to celebrate the country’s independence and achievements.On National Day, there are usually parades and fireworks displays across the country. People also decorate their homes with flags and other patriotic symbols.New Year’s DayNew Year’s Day falls on January 1st every year and is celebrated all over the world. It is a day to ring in the new year with friends and family.On New Year’s Day, people typically make resolutions for the coming year and celebrate with parties and fireworks.ChristmasChristmas is a religious holiday that falls on December 25th. It is a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and is widely celebrated all over the world.On Christmas, people typically exchange gifts, decorate Christmas trees, and attend church services. They also enjoy special foods and spend time with family and friends.HalloweenHalloween falls on October 31st and is a popular holiday in many countries, especially the United States. It is a day to dress up in costumes, go trick-or-treating, and tell scary stories.On Halloween, people typically carve pumpkins and decorate their homes with spooky decorations.
