Then he went into his room without another word. Ten minutes later, Peter heard his father knocking on his bedroom door. He opened the door to let him in. “Look, Peter. I don’t know what happened. But whatever it was, don’t be too hard on yourself.”,“I lost the game, Dad. I failed my team. They’ll probably never let me play again.” “Soccer is about team effort. You’re not the only reason your team lost. If you have a good team, you should support each other. Besides, winning or losing is only half the game. The other half is learning how to communicate with your teammates and learning from your mistakes.” Peter didn’t say anything but what his father said made him think carefully.,The next day, Peter went to soccer practice with courage rather than fear in his heart. “Hey, guys, ” he said to his teammates. “I’m really sorry about yesterday. We were so close to winning that game. But I think if we continue to pull together, we’re going to win the next one.” To his surprise and relief, his teammates all nodded in agreement.,“Yeah, ” they said, “don’t worry about it.       because of 是介词短语, 意为“因为;由于”, 比其他短语更口语化, 构成的短语在句子中通常作状语, 一般不作表语用;后面可接名词、代词、动名词或what引导的名词性从句等 例:He walks slowly because of his bad leg. 他因为腿不方便而行走缓慢拓展,表示“因为”的其他短语,1) thanks to意为 “由于或因为某人(某事)”, 通常用于好的方面, 译为“多亏”, 但有时作反语;引导的介词短语可置于句首或句末 例:Thanks to the bad weather, the match had been cancelled. 多亏这个倒霉天气, 挺好的比赛取消了 (反语),2) due to意为“由于, 因….造成”, 引导的短语在句中除可作状语(此时一般不用于句首)外, 也可作表语或定语;作表语或状语时可将due to看作是owing to的同义词 例:Accidents due to driving at high speed were very common that weekend. 在那个周末因高速驾驶造成的交通事故很多 (做定语),due to除可表示原因外, 还有“应给于, 应属于”的意思。

      例:Our grateful thanks are due to you. 向你表示我们衷心的感谢3) owing to意为“由于”, 引出的介词短语, 在 句中作状语或表语, 做状语时, 习惯上用逗 号和句子其他部分分开 例:They decided to put off the trip, owing to bad weather. 由于天气不好他们决定推迟旅行 Owing to his careless driving, we had a bad accident.由于他驾驶疏忽, 我们发生了一次 大车祸 (The accident was due to his careless driving. 这次车祸是由于他的驾驶疏忽造成的根据汉语意思用下列介词短语完成句子①雪莱成为诗人可能是由于受母亲的影响 That Shelley became a poet may have been ______________ his mother’s influence.,because of , thanks to , due to, owing to,due to/owing to,拓展训练,②乔因英语不及格申报那所大学没被录取。
