In the CHW workshop, the CTN team worked as observer and supporter. As the output of the training in a whole, 17 professionals were trained as trainers, among whom 7 actually delivered the course, while the others worked as supporters. The course syllabus was developed in two languages: Chinese and Uigur. The training materials were developed in the local cultural context. During the second workshop, community screening was carried out. 420 people in a township were screened, out of whom 150 people with eye problems were medically treated. Patients who needed eye surgeries were referred to the K.K. General Hospital. Around 3,000 people were informed regarding eye protection, and 300 people were educated through interpersonal communication. The two workshops were monitored and evaluated by the facilitators and the trainers, using various information collection methods. According to the evaluation, the workshops were both successful. The participants were satisfied with being the center of learning and actively participated in the activities. The participants were especially satisfied with the training methods and the facilitator ’ s attitudes. Also, as the CHW training course was designed on the base of solid needs assessment, the training contents were acknowledged as being very useful and appropriate to the CHWs. The participants also gave their feedback and suggestions on time arrangement and learning material preparation. The schedules in the appendix show the activities of the two workshops. - iv - iv all counties and townships of K.K. prefecture. In the CHW workshop, the CTN team worked as observer and supporter.
