15页1Interpretation for Government Affairs From English into Chinese For Students’ UsePassage 1Today’s world is primarily shaped and dominated by a few corporate billionaires. So the battle we need to fight, in the year 2001, is to accent this escalating and galloping wealth inequality between the rich and the poor, not just here but around the world. Half of the people on this planet are living on less than two dollars a day. The richest 225 individuals have more wealth than the bottom 43% of all humankind. That’s 2.6 billion people of all colors. The richest three individuals have more wealth than the bottom 48 countries. That’s not just unjust and immoral, that’s a crime against humanity.Passage 2For several times after I returned home from a recent survey in China, I have been asked the same question: “What impresses you most regarding the economical relations between the European Union and China?” Well, my deepest impression is that China attaches great importance to the development of long-term, stable and mutually-beneficial cooperative relations with the European Union. The Chinese side wishes to make joint efforts with the European Union and its member countries to have an all-round co-operation in political, economic, educational, cultural and public health fields, so as to push the relations onto a new level. As the international situation has undergone profound changes, strengthened cooperation and dialogues between Europe and China serve the interests of both sides and help promote the common development in Asia and Europe.Passage 3China’s economic miracle of the last 25 years has impressed the whole world. The opening- up and economic reform in this country has already demonstrated its enormous success in the building of a prosperous community. We Canadians cherish the opportunity to participate in your modernization drive; we also seek to help acquire for all members of your society adequate education and health care, decent living standards and social security. As in the pursuit of those goals, many of the values demonstrated by the Chinese people are found as well in Canada. This is the foundation for the friendship and cooperation between our two countries. With your distinct histories, geographies and cultures it is unlikely that we could see eye to eye on all issues—but we do agree on the fundamental need for world peace, and the equally fundamental need for all countries to determine and design their own future.2Passage 4With the economic globalization and cultural internationalization, no countries in the world today can develop in close isolation. It is the growing trend today that nations benefit from one another.India and China are two great nations with different cultures, political traditions and economic systems. But they have also many common interests, which can be served by improved relations.Although trade relations between India and China sometimes is a source of disputes and misunderstandings, trade also can provide a link to establish improved economic conditions and increased good will between our two countries. On a foundation of seeking a win-win situation for both India and China, we have developed a strategic roadmap based on mutual benefit and sustainable development. I am sure that the people of both nations will gain high returns.Passage 5The whole world has witnessed China’s rapid economic development. We are very impressed by the quadrupling output you achieved in the last twenty years, and more impressed by your new goal of another quadrupling output in the next twenty years, and nationwide modernization by the mid-century, what you called “a well-off society in an all-round way”. This is a stunning economic triple jump. A triple jump is not, of course, an easy feat to accomplish. We are all realists. We know that planning something is different from accomplishing it. The achievement of economic growth and development inevitably involves the uncertainty and sometimes the agony of constantly readjusting and developing policies to meet new circumstances and problems. Australia is willing and has the capability to be a partner in your development.Passage 6Since 1980s when China adopted reform and opening policies, China has always been a focus of attention of the world as its trade relations with other countries have developed by leaps and bounds. Many foreign businessmen have found that China is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and one of the best choices of their investment destinations.Today, we American businessmen are eager to learn more about trade and investment opportunities in China, especially after its accession to the WTO and its victory over the bid for 2008 Olympics and 2010 World Exposition. Many American businessmen and their lawyers now understand that they must study the laws, trade practices, and cultural traditions of China in order to be more effective in doing business with their partners.3P。
