Many of these fingerings can also be used as alternate fingerings for some fast passages. Keys to be trilled are indicated in red . When more than one key is to be trilled, the keys should be simultaneously pressed and simultaneously released, unless the description says to alternate pressing and releasing the keys. These fingerings are intended for all sizes of flute (soprano, alto, and bass) and piccolo unless specified otherwise.

They're tons of fun to play, and not very hard once you learn how (and have mastered the range in which the trill is played).

Warm up on your flute or piccolo. You might play a scale or slur some octaves. Look at the trilled note on the page. It will either have a squiggly line or the letters “tr“ above it. In modern trills you should start on the note and trill up to the next note in the key signature (unless otherwise noted). In music written before 1800 the trill generally starts on the note above (this is usually noted on the music as well).

There are many alternate fingerings that would not be used in normal playing, but facilitate trilling at faster speed. For example the trill keys on the flute are used to trill from c2 to d2, which would otherwise require moving almost all the fingers. All flute fingerings。
