Dummy PCs are used to access as Client. System: EXE, PKMS, Citadel, SPLUS, LoGIC.–Advantage: Secure, Fast and reliable as system usually runs in secure network.–Disadvantage: Expensive to implement as usually requires a dedicated lease line.• ASP (Application Service Provider) – Web Application–Means: The program is sent/delivered via the Internet, no need for user to install a program in order to use. Usually program is accessed via an Internet browser. System: ICON, VCS2.–Advantage: Easy Access and used. No need to install any programs. Cheap and fast to implement.–Disadvantage: Speed affected largely by Internet speed. May not be fully secured.• Standalone System–Means: Program is installed on the PC and runs from there. No need a server. System: CSFLog–Advantage: Cheap and quick to implement. No need for a server.–Disadvantage: As all data & program resides on 1 PC. If PC is down, all data may be lost.UPS Supply Chain Solutions10UPS SCS IT SolutionsUPS Supply Chain Solutions11Service Parts Logistics System’s CoreüBasic WMS Functions: Receive, Barcode, Putaway, Pick, PacküStores and Validates Serial #üFast/Cost Effective to Setup and ImplementüAdvance WMS Functions: Replenishment, Stock BalancingüValue-added Features: Field Engineers Booking etcüAdvanced Reports: Defective Trends Analysis, Engineers Work Order AnalysisüCurrently Known UPS SPL System:1.Citadel2.ICON3.SPLUSUPS Supply Chain Solutions12Citadel System Information:• Client/Server Technology• Accessed via Lease Line using Telnet• Non-graphical Interface – a Unix/Vax machine ‘feel’• Server Located in Sydney, Australia• Have a Web front for Inventory tracking/visibilityUPS Supply Chain Solutions13CitadelUPS Supply Chain Solutions14CitadelUPS Supply Chain Solutions15Citadel – Good Stock in Transit ScreenUPS Supply Chain Solutions16Citadel ChecklistüWMS FunctionsüStores and Validates Serial #ⅩFast/Cost Effective to Setup and ImplementüAdvance WMS Functions: Replenishment, Stock BalancingⅩValue-added Features: Field Engineers Booking etcüAdvanced Reports: Defective Trends Analysis, Engineers Work Order AnalysisüBenefits: Proven System & Mature systemXDownside: Expensive to setup, require lease line, Outdated technology with EOL Database. I.e 4 walls• Use of PDA as a front to replace PC in WMS Applications–PDA have processing power up to 400MHZ! And in theory a Pentium PC!–Mobile and application in remote job sites• Low Internet Bandwidth Costs and Widespread use of Wireless Internet (GPRS)–Provide a good opportunity to promote use of Internet as the medium rather than traditional Lease Line in systems.–Internet allows real-times data across Greater China and with lower costs!–Potential Killer Apps – Greater China Track & Trace across multi-modal vendors. I.e. Trucks, planes, rails and ships!UPS Supply Chain Solutions41DCCan you Set up a DC Today?Stocking Location by Tomorrow?FSLFSLAnother one by Tomorrow?FSLAnother one ?FSLAnother one ?FSLAnother one ?And Link Them All Together??? In Real Time?UPS Supply Chain Solutions42Summary• China Logistics presents an opportunity for IT to play an all-important enabler! In New Shanghai Warehouse??• The lead-time in deploying new technologies is getting shorter and shorter!• First Mover Advantage is very real and the lead time between the first company who uses IT to sell its Logistics Solutions and the rest is probably only 3-6 months!• Most major 3PLs in China uses EXE as their defacto solution for WMS BUT no standard application is seen for SPL!UPS Supply Chain Solutions。
