formative influence on the cultivation of the socia1 charity and charitable atmos— phere．These customs are essentially coincident with the spirit of“humanistic solicitude”advocated to— day．Therefore，Zhongyuan Day，based on the academic research，should be fully utilized to apply for “the intangible cultural heritage”，or even to set up a“national mourning day”． Key Words：Zhongyuan Day；Ritual Held for Ghosts；Charity Granted to the Orphanage；Hu— manistjC So1iCitl】de [责任编辑劳玉灵] 。
