圣雄”甘地 Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948) was an Indian statesman and activist who was instrumental in helping his country through his strategy of non-violent resistance. Born in Porbandar, India, Gandhi was the son of a government official. He studied law at the University of London, becoming a barrister in 1891. Gandhi moved to South Africa to work in law shortly after and was soon asked by an Indian businessman to represent his company. However, Gandhi soon realised the discrimination that Indians faced every day there and decided to become a voice for those discriminated against. In his years in South Africa, he tirelessly worked for Indian rights. In 1915, he returned to India, where he continued his work to help Indians win greater rights in their own country and in the process became a central figure there. Gandhi was assassinated in 1948.Mohandas Gandhi sometimes is referred to with the title “Mahatma” which means “Great Soul”, and this was used as a term of endearment.Discuss the questions in groups.Look and DiscussQuestionStudent 1Student 2Student 3What would you like to be in the future? What kinds of work scenarios do you prefer?Where do you want to work?
