One afternoon, we were feeding hens in my grandparents’ back yard. As we finished and headed back home, we found a giant cobra was there, staring at us. I was unable to move with my heart in my throat. I didn’t know how long it had been there and whether it would devour me, Kevin, or the hens. Before I took to my heels, Kevin calmed me down and said a sudden quick move would stir the snake. Luckily, a few seconds later, the snake didn’t make other moves and slowly crawled away. Then we hurried home safe and sound. Though I’ve never seen him since the last year of middle school, as my family moved to another province, the memories about me and Kevin playing together are as vivid as they first occurred. My childhood would be a lot less vibrant without him.
