Please reference the following exciting and rewarding volunteer opportunities available for those 18 years of age or older, out of high school. If you’re able to donate your time for 6 or more consecutive months (a commitment form will be provided at orientation asking for signature) on a regular basis, please review the following information. Applications remain active for 60 days from date received. Currently, we do not have opportunities for court appointed community service, shadowing, internships/externships, medical coding/billing, within medical records, or clinical. CLERICAL Volunteers will assist with answering phones and/or call bells, copying, filing, faxing, alphabetizing, data entry, picking up/distributing mail, shredding, and taking messages. EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT (ED) * Volunteer Ambassador Volunteers act as liaison between family members and the patient’s caregivers. Volunteers work with the nursing staff to communicate information to family members regarding the patient’s condition and location. * Volunteer Assistant Volunteers provide supportive services and information to patients, visitors and staff in the Emergency Room and its waiting area. At the direction of the ER Charge Nurse, volunteers restock treatment area supplies, escort patients to radiology and other areas of the hospital, visit with patients and families, perform clerical tasks and provide courier services to other hospital departments. * Research Assistant *** NO CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES *** Volunteers needed to assist the researchers for a pilot study with shifts from 4-5 hours. Main volunteer duties will be to manage Radio Frequency Identification Badge and interact with the staff and patients in the Emergency Department along with: Assign badges to patients and hospital staff Be able to communicate with patients Describe the goals of the project when prompted Collect, clean and disinfect badges * HANDs Program *** APPLICATION WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE HANDs COORDINATOR FOR REVIEW *** Support the Emergency Medicine physicians and nurses by working directly with them, interact with the patients to provide comfort measures and inform them regarding waits and delays, manage patient test results, facilitate admission / discharge process, and facilitate communication for the attending physician with lab, radiology, and consult / admitting services. GIFT SHOP (EUH) Profits from the Gift Shop are donated to the hospital for items that enhance patient care. Volunteers assist with sales of gift items to patients, visitors and hospital staff. Responsibilities include ensuring items are stocked and working on the cash register. Weekday and weekend openings are available. HOSPITALITY Bookmobile - EUH Volunteers stock Bookmobile with magazines and paperback books that have been donated by hospital staff and volunteers. Route for Bookmobile includes waiting areas of hospital and designated patient floors which allows for visitation and interaction with patients, family members and hospital staff. Guest Services / Greeters Volunteer assists Concierge in Main Lobby or Guest Service Associate in the Motor Lobby/Valet area. Volunteer directs or escorts patients and visitors to appropriate areas throughout the hospital. Volunteer delivers newspapers to waiting areas each day, and performs other “on call“ activities when hospital departments need special assistance. Volunteer may be asked to assist Guest Services Associate and valet parking attendants in helping patients who are being discharged from the hospital. Waiting Rooms Volunteers act as liaison between family members and the patient’s caregivers.
