    • VI. Future/ Inventions1. What is the greatest invention that you wish to see in the future?Time machine2. Talk about one great invention that has fundamentally changed our life.James Watt and Thomas Newcomen invented the concept of using steam to work machinery. Watt first noticed that steam could force inanimate objects to move after noticing the pressure and energy from boiling water would lift the lid to a tea kettle, according the University of Dayton. During the mid-1700s, steam power was designed to operate pumps. Soon after, steam was used to power furnaces and filter water throughout plumbing systems. Thanks to the steam engine, inventors Richard Trevithick and George Stephenson combined their imaginative powers to produce the world's first steam-powered locomotive. The concept was brought into existence during the first decade of the 1800s. The locomotive allowed masses of people to travel long distances, via railcar, in short periods of time. Trains and railroads made possible the expansion of communities, cultures and human civilization.3. What are the benefits and negative effects that cloning may bring.Plant cloning is very useful in the prevention of plant diseases. Cloning via tissue culture can be used to eradicate diseases that previously killed off entire fields of crops. This would make plants immune to the kinds of diseases that farmers and gardeners around the world dread each year. Crop failures due to disease and virus could become a thing of the past. Also, plants that are near extinction can be essentially brought back to life through cloning. The main risk involved in plant cloning is genetic uniformity. By "playing God," we disrupt the natural evolutionary process in which only the best plants survive. In a population of identical plants, all these plants are equally susceptible to the same diseases, whereas in nature the weak would die and the strong would survive. There is also the risk of possible negative health affects on humans as a result of plant cloning, such as cancer and other genetic abnormalities.4. Do you think robots or computers will take over all the work from human beings in the future?Industry has benefited drastically from the expanse of a robotic work force. Automated machines have taken over the duties of dangerous and mundane jobs from humans, allowing greater productivity. Because robots never tire, extra shifts have been added to factories. Farmers have taken advantage of new technology with automated harvesters, the waste disposal industry has implemented robots in some of its dirtier jobs, and the medical industry benefits from advancements in assisted surgical robotics. The military has launched various programs in robotic technology, most successfully the Predator and Reaper unmanned aerial reconnaissance vehicles that allow a pilot to control the robot from vast distances. The vehicles can do high-altitude surveillance for long periods without having to support a live pilot, and when needed the planes can launch small strikes on targets in zones that normal aircraft cannot operate.5. Do you believe in supernatural power? How do you explain mysterious UFO, crop circles or monsters?Yes, I don’t. In my opinions, it is just a kind of spirit. Take ‘Black Magic’ for example. In ancient India, the practice of using spirits to evoke healing powers was believed by many to be used by healers who were unable to travel to the afflicted person. This practice eventually took on a new form. People other than healers began trying to using this supposed power to inflict sickness (cancers and fevers), misfortune and death on enemies. That, however, seemed to rebound, meaning they began to believe that these spells were coming back on them. The Hindus began referring to this phenomenon as karma. Many Eastern religions incorporated the teaching into their belief system. I truly believe these are just some kinds of natural phenomenon or Man-made phenomena.6. Do you think it is a blessing that man can live up to 200 or 300 years old? It is hard to say. In theory, it is possible to make that dream come true. With the rapid development of technology, we have already had the ability to improve people living standard. Compared with a few years ago, human could live longer. Of course, Owing to the limitation of available technology, man live up to 200 or 300 years, that is impossible.7. How can human beings save endangered species from extinction by means of science and technology? On the one hand, contribute to nature reserves and other wilderness areas. Habitat preservation is one of the best ways to help protect endangered animals. We can donate money or volunteer our time helping the nature reserve preserve habitat. On the other hand, create or restore habitat for endangered animals. We can volunteer to help with projects worldwide designed to reestablish habitat. In our own backyard, plant a butterfly garden, use native plants and trees and l。
