丁译:Confucius said, “When one sees a virtuous man, one should think of exerting oneself to be like him; when one sees someone who is not virtuous, one should examine oneself.”辜译:Confucius remarked, “When we meet with men of worth, we should think how we may equal them. When we meet with worthless men, we should turn into ourselves and find out if we do not resemble them.”辜氏儒经翻译的特点1 意译法,且不仅译出原作的文字,还要再现原作的风格 2 引用歌德、卡莱尔、阿诺德、莎士比亚等西方著名作家和思想家的话 来注释某些经文,这在儒经翻译史上还是第一次 如:子曰:“道其不行矣夫!”Confucius remarked: “There is in the world now really no moral social order at all. ”” The word tao here means the moral law finding its expression in social order. Confucius in his time, as Carlyle or Ruskin in modern Europe, considered the world to have gone on wrong track; the ways of men and constitution of society to be radically wrong.(中庸:The Universal Order or Conduct of Life )辜氏儒经翻译的特点3 注释中将书中出现的中国人物、中国朝代与西方历史上具有相似特点的人物和时间段作横向比较。
