Let’s look back over the last three years. What were the highs and lows? For Zhang Xiaomeng, a senior high school girl from Jiangsu, meeting her best friend Hua Xuan was the best part of her time at junior high school. They went to class together, had lunch together, and even went to the washroom together.Having one or two best friends is important, said Xu Zheng, a teacher from Jiangsu. “Students have secrets. They don’t want to tell their parents,” Xu added. However, being too rebellious (叛逆的) in junior high is the biggest regret (遗憾) for Liu Anqing, a senior high school student from Fujian. “I didn’t listen to my parents. I quarreled with my mother every week,” said Liu. “I wish I could go back to that time and get on well with them.” Time also needs to be taken care of. Zhang Zihua, 15, from Shanxi, thought he had plenty of time to prepare for the big exam at the end of Junior 3. Then one day, he was told: “The exam is in 100 days.” “We need a solid (牢固的) knowledge base to pass the exam. But I didn’t care about it,” said Zhang. Gu Xiaoli, a teacher from Jiangsu, said that it’s never too late to catch up. “No matter your regrets about wasted time, you can always pick things up from now,” said Gu. 词数 260 建议阅读时间 5 分钟DO you ever worry about thieves breaking into your home? Do you often remind parents to keep wide awake while driving?Liu Junkang, 13, has these worries. He deals with them through his inventions.Liu studies at Nanjing Hongguang Middle School. Since primary school, he has been interested in inventions.Liu saw that his mom spent a lot of time cleaning hair on the floor. So he tied adhesive tape (胶带) to a roller and added a handle (把手). A new mop (拖把) was invented. One day, a thief tried to break into his home. Luckily a neighbor saw and stopped it. The experience gave Liu a new idea. He made an auto-alarm (自动报警器) and put it into the mat. If a person stands on it, the alarm goes off.At the 24th Jiangsu Adolescents Science & Technology Innovation Contest in March, Liu showed his latest invention. It looks like a normal Bluetooth earphone, but Liu and his friend added a mercury balance device (水银平衡装置) to it. When the wearer falls asleep and his head leans to one side at an angle (角度) of 15-25 degrees, the mercury device will turn on an alarm to wake up the driver.“I read reports about traffic accidents caused by tired drivers. This device could help,” said Liu. It costs only 10 yuan.“My inventions are not about difficult theories (理论). They are about being useful,” said Liu. “If everyone thinks deeper about everyday problems and works out new ways to solve them, our lives will be better,” he added.By Zhang Chunmei, 21st Century Te。
