What is it for?—It a hotel. But I am not sure.2.may 的几种用法1）、表示许可或征求对方的许 可，有 “可以”的意思。
例如：You may go now. 你可以走了May I use your computer? 我用一下你的电脑可以吗？2）、回答以 may 开头的疑问句有如下表达法：-May I smoke here? 我可以在这儿抽烟吗？-Yes, you may. / Yes, please. 请抽吧No, you can't. / No, you mustn't. / No, you'd better not. 请不要抽烟3）、表示猜测，通常只用于 陈述句例如：You may be right. 你可能是对 的4）、在口语中 can 可以代替 may 表示许可，但 can 较随便，may 更正式例：Can I use your bike, John? 约翰，我可以用一下你的自行车吗？May I have a look at your license please, sir? 先生，我可以看一下你的执照吗?注意：①may 的这种用法，第一人称都以一般问句出现，它的否定回答可用 can't, mustn't 或 may not 表示“不可以”、“禁止” 、“阻止” ②May I…，在文体上比 较正式，在语气上比较客气。
现代口 语中常以 Can I…代之 2③may 一般不用于反意疑问句，其反 问部分用其他形式表示还有：（2）表示祝愿，意思是：祝…，（但愿）3）表示推测，意思是：可能（会），或许（会）补充：1、maybe 是副词，意思是“ 也许、可能 ”，在句中作状 语，相当于 perhaps，常位于句首 Maybe she’ll come this afternoon. 她可能今天下午来 Maybe you put the letter in your pockets. 大概你把信放在衣袋里了 2、在 may be 中，may 是情态动词，be 是 动词原形，两者构成完整的谓语形式，与主语形成 系表结构，意为“也许 是、可能是” I can’t find my watch. It may be in your pocket. 我找不到我的手表了，它可能在你的口袋里 He may be a soldier. 他可能是军人 3、maybe 和 may be 可相互转换 He may be in the office. = Maybe he is in the office. 他或许在办公室。
