Beginning opera- tions in 1961, this plant located some 50 kilometers (31 miles) southwest of Tokyo was Japan s first full- scale integrated vehicle assembly plant. In 1970, it was th
4、e first domestic plant to introduce welding robots; later the Oppama Plant became a pioneer of flexible manufacturing systems. These innovations have led to its position today as a leader in automated manufacturing. Located next to the plant is the Oppama Wharf, a major shipping center capable of transporting some 80,000 vehicles per month, both from Oppama and other Nissan plants. The Global Training Center was opened at Oppama in 2006 to develop human resources for Nissan s worldwide productio
5、n plants, and the Oppama Proving Ground called GRANDRIVE for conducting test drives and other evaluation activi- ties was opened in 2007. Electric Vehicles will begin production in fall 2010.
