In this unit:As the second period of the whole-unit teaching design, it focuses on reading and thinking skills. Having talked about ways of green living, students will read an expository text. The negative effects that "just-me-ism" brings on the environment will inspire students to reflect themselves and find solutions.2. In this period:What: with the theme "Human and environment-the power of individuals", this section introduces the non-profit organization "Roots& Shoots". It covers its background , establishment, meaning and purpose.Why: Through the introduction, students know the negative effects "just-me-ism" brings on the environment. The analyses of the educational organization "Roots & Shoots" and its founder's quotes inspire students to realize the importance of individuals and take action to make the world a better place for people, animals and the environment.How: The text is mainly an expository text with some narration in it. Firstly, the problem "just-me- ism" is introduced ; secondly, one of the solutions, "Roots& Shoots"(founder , meaning and purposes), is explained; In the end, its founders' quotes are emphasized to conclude the text.Analysis of studentsSenior one students are active and prefer to take part in cooperative learning activities. They can easily locate specific information through reading but their ability to integrate information is relatively weak. Some students can express themselves in English freely while most of them have to discuss with their peers to get prepared.
