Beethoven是贝多芬,像这种专有名词,因为很著名,需要 按照习惯翻译,而不可以随便音译这个部分可以直接翻译 为"贝多芬的使用极其的强烈来提高音量的习惯"这个译 文不通顺,原因有二其ー,"使用极其的强烈"不通顺,这个地方本来的问题来自 考研岀题人,因为笔者研究过这篇文章英语本来的原文是with an intense crescendo ,,向不是 with an extreme intensity0 岀题人 弃用crescendo的原因特别简单,因为这是ー个音乐中的专业术语, 意思是"渐强”,它是一个考研超纲词如果按照英语原文,特别 容易说通顺,即"使用渐强的方式来提高音量"但是由于出题人 已经改编成with an extreme intensity ,我们也要尽量翻译通顺, 可以采用増词法的翻译技巧,翻译为"使用极其强烈的力度来提高 乐曲的音量"其二,说"贝多芬的…的…的习惯"太糟糕,不如说成"贝多芬 习惯…"所以这个部分可以翻译为:贝多芬习惯用极其强烈的情 绪来提咼乐曲的音量2) and then abruptly following it with a sudden softpassage是and连接的并列结构。

首先需要理解and并列的是 following与前面的increasing ,都修饰主语中心词habit0考虑到 前面的habit我们已经翻译成"贝多芬习惯…",所以,这里 following就可以直接翻译了其次,passage在音乐中,习惯称 之为"乐段"这样这个部分直接翻译为:然后又出人意料地突然 跟 上一个轻柔的乐段3) was only rarely used by composers before him 是キ干 的谓语部分rarely是"罕见,少有"的意思;composer是"作曲 家"的意思这个谓语部分是一个被动态,其主语是Beethoven' shabits(贝多芬的这种作曲习惯)所以，这个部分翻译为"这种作 曲习惯很少被他之前的作曲家使用"被动态,可以主宾颠倒,调 整为:"在他之前的作曲家极少采用这种作曲方式"参考译文:贝多芬习惯用极其强烈的カ度来提高乐曲的音量,然后又出人 意料地突然跟上一个轻柔的乐段,他之前的作曲家极少采用这种作 曲方式案例四:By all accounts //he was a freethinking person, and a courageous one,//and I find courage an essential quality for the understanding, //let alone the performance, of his works.(29 words)词汇要点:1) quality//n.质量;品质,特征2) performance//n,表演,表现,演出,演奏结构要点:1）第一个并列句的主干he was..., and...;2）第二个并列句的主干是 I find courage... , an essential quality是宾语补足语;3) of his works 既要修饰 the understanding ,还要修饰 the performanceo汉译逻辑要点:1） by all accounts是ー个习惯用法,意思是"据说,大家都 说,大家普遍认为"。

2） andl find courage an essential quality for the understanding是and连接的第二个并列句其中有一个比较容易 出错的单词是quality ,它当可数名词用,是"特征,品质”等意思, 而不是"质量”的意思所以,这个部分可以直接翻译为:我发现 勇敢是对于理解的一个关键的特征这个译文不通顺,原因在于"勇敢是对于理解（什么）的一个关键特征"正好下文有of his works ,这样可以清楚的判断，这里的of his works要修饰the understanding ,还要修饰the performanceo所以,译文可以调整为:勇敢这一特征是理解他作品的关键3） letalone the performance, of his workso 如前所述, ofhis works ,既修饰 the understanding ,也修饰 the performance ,所以 the performance of his works 可以翻译为 "对他的作品的演奏"let alone是"更不必说,更别提"的意思如果这个部分直接翻译为"更不必说对其作品的演奏",感觉不完整, 可以补充完。
