In the U.S., banks, insurance companies, mutual funds and finance companies are regarded as financial intermediaries. In the U.K., a bank, building society, finance house, insurance company, investment trust, etc., that holds funds borrowed from lenders in order to make loans to borrowers, are examples of financial intermediaries.
