This paper analyzes the verbal humor in the western situation comedy The Big Bang Theory, analyzes the cultural and social causes of the differences in humor between English and Chinese, based on the cooperation principle and the relevance theory.本研究目的和意义(The purpose and significance of the study)：研究目的(The purpose)： 研究在于发现语用视角中的英汉言语幽默的现状；弄清楚英汉幽默的相似之处以及区别；最后再通过收集的对文化因素的数据分析，分析该剧是如何在言语幽默之中运用跨文化交际的This paper aims at finding out the present situation of English and Chinese verbal humor under the Pragmatic Vision, clarifying the similarities and differences between English and Chinese humor; finally analyzing the cultural factors through the sitcom to analyze how the intercultural communication is applied to speech of humor.研究意义(The significance)：随着全球化日益加剧对外文化交流变得愈加频繁，人们将面临跨文化交际的挑战。

而幽默是每个文化中最深邃和艰深的部分，因此也最值得研究本篇论文主要通过对英汉文化里言语幽默进行跨文化比较以增进人们对不同文化下幽默差异的认识和理解，从而有效避免因跨文化交际而产生的交际误解和冲突With the increasing globalization, foreign cultural exchanges have become more frequent; people will face the challenges of cross-cultural communication. And humor is the most profound and difficult part of every culture, and therefore the most worthy part of study. This paper aims to promote the understanding of humor differences in different cultures through cross-cultural comparisons of verbal humor in English and Chinese cultures, so as to avoid the misunderstanding and conflicts in cross-cultural communication.本研究的理论意义（国内外文献综述）：Theoretical significance of the study (Domestic and international literature review): 国内研究：近几年国内学者们对语用视角下的英汉言语幽默的研究较多。

邵梦远（2012）[1]总结了跨文化视角下的中英文幽默语；吕冰(2008)[2]从跨文化交际角度出发，在大量丰富的英汉幽默的例证下，努力探索英汉言语幽默的共性和特性；晏芳(2010)[3]对两部情景喜剧中的言语幽默进行对比分析，进而探究引起英汉言语幽默差异的文化和社会根源钱静(2014)[5]则通过举例来对比英汉言语幽默差异的五个主要不同之处另外，黄蕾和杨艳（2012）[7]共同分析了英汉幽默言语的文化共性和差异；郭俊芳（2010）[9]则对比研究了英汉言语幽默及其幽默困境，从而阐述了对语言学习的影响此外，慕会丽（2001）[10]做出了英汉言语幽默的跨文化比较林绿竹（2001）[11]对跨文化交际中的英汉语言对比与语用失误进行了分析总结；孙牧（2012）[12]对文化语境影响下的英汉幽默进行了对比分析；王志萍（2008）[17]对比研究《老友记》中英剧本幽默言语的语用；郭惠香（2013）[20]对美国情景喜剧中由违反合作原则和礼貌原则引发的言语幽默进行研究；等等学者侧重于相关理论的分析以及言语幽默与文化之间的关系在介绍定义，功能和语言幽默的理论之后，探讨文化乃至跨文化方面的言语交流的特点。

根据以上的论述分析言语幽默以及文化之间的关系，得出幽默与文化之间深层关系的结论，为以后的研究提供了理论依据Domestic study: In recent years, many scholars have studied the verbal humor in English and Chinese from the pragmatic perspective. Shao Mengyuan (2012) [1] summed up the cross-cultural perspective of Chinese and English humor. From the perspective of intercultural communication, Lu Bing (2008) [2] made efforts to investigate the similarities and distinctions between English and Chinese verbal humors from the perspective of cross-cultural communication and the causes rooted in different cultures. Yan Fang (2010) [3] is the author of the study of the humor in Chinese and English from the perspective of intercultural perspectives. And then explores the cultural and social causes of humor differences in English and Chinese verbal humor. Qian Jing (2014) [5] contrasts the five major differences between English and Chinese verbal humor by way of examples. In addition, Huang Lei and Yang Yan (2012) [7] jointly analyzed the cultural similarities and differences between English and Chinese humorous utterances. Guo Junfang (2010) [9] contrasted the humor and humor dilemma between English and Chinese, and thus expounded the influence on language learning. In addition, Mu Huili (2001) [10] made a cross-cultural comparison of verbal humor between English and Chinese. Lin Zhulu (2001) [11] analyzes the English-Chinese contrast and pragmatic failure in intercultural communication. Sun Mu (2012) [12] makes a contrastive analysis of English and Chinese humor under the influence of cultural context. Wang Zhiping (2008) [17] compares the humorous words in English and Chinese; Guo Huixiang (2013) [20] on American sitcom violated the principle of cooperation and courtesy principles of speech humor research; and so on. The scholars focus on analysis of the related theories and the relationship between verbal humor and culture. After the presentation of the definitions, functions and theories on verbal humor, there follows discussions about features of cultures and cross-cultural communication. Based on the above analysis, conclusion about deep relationship between humor and culture is reached, which provides theoretical basis for the following resear。
