    • Recycle 2 Make’s Summer Camp Lesson 2: Teaching Plan (2022-2023 Academic Year, Grade 5, English, Second Semester)IntroductionIn this second lesson of Recycle 2 Make’s Summer Camp, students will continue to learn about the importance of recycling and how to repurpose materials. Specifically, this lesson will focus on repurposing paper and creating new objects from used materials. Students will practice their English language skills through group discussions and hands-on activities.Learning Objectives• Understand the importance of recycling• Learn how to repurpose paper• Practice English language skills through group discussions and hands-on activitiesMaterials Needed• Used paper (newspapers, magazines, notebook paper, etc.)• Scissors• Tape• Glue• Markers• Rulers• PencilsLesson PlanWarm-Up (10 minutes)• Review the importance of recycling and why it is important to repurpose materials.• Ask students to share examples of ways they have seen paper being reused or repurposed.• Play a short game where students take turns naming something they can do to help the environment (e.g. turn off lights when leaving a room, ride a bike instead of driving a car, etc.).Instruction (25 minutes)• Review how to create a paper strip by cutting long, thin strips from a sheet of paper.• Demonstrate how to use paper strips to create a paper chain. Show students how to link the paper strips together by folding one end over and taping it to the other end of a different paper strip.• Discuss some other things that can be created with paper strips, such as baskets and bowls.• Talk about how these paper objects can be decorated with markers or other materials.Activity (55 minutes)• Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students.• Give each group a pile of used paper and the necessary supplies (scissors, tape, glue, markers, rulers, pencils).• Instruct students to work together to create an object using only the paper and supplies provided (e.g. a basket, a bowl, or a hat).• Encourage students to be creative and experiment with different techniques to join the paper together.• Once they have completed their project, have each group present their object to the class and explain how they created it.Wrap-Up (10 minutes)• Ask students to reflect on what they learned today about repurposing paper.• Review the key vocabulary words of the lesson (paper strip, repurpose, object, decorate).• Assign a short homework assignment where students write a paragraph about their favorite part of the lesson and what they learned about recycling and repurposing paper.ConclusionThis lesson provides students with the opportunity to see firsthand how used paper can be repurposed and turned into new objects. Through hands-on experimentation and group discussions, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of recycling and repurposing materials.。
