Poverty,Money and loveBefore I begin my speech,I have a question. How much of you have ever donated money or something to Wenchuan earthquake?As a survival of it,I clearly felt the changes happened around me:qults offered to help us pass the cold nights,hospitals got the money to equip facilities and ruins become cities.These let me think one question,what philanthropy is and what it could be?I’ve watched a TED video about poverty and money.The speaker ever think the world of poor people was like a black box without light and full of hopelessness,helplessness and they are homeless.So she got tired of it and stopped listening to their stories and gave money just when being asked.This changed until she went to the east Africa and found no one wanted her to feel bad for them at all.They are smart and hardworking,they conduct small business and just given a little bit of capital,they can make a better life.It’s humbling.Philanthropy is still connected with love.I have a point from Bill Gates.This is a photo from his speech.It shows that over the past century,average lifespan has more than doubled,another statistic,perhaps our favorite,is to look at te childhood death.In 1960,110 million children were born and 20 million of those died before the age of 5.In 2005,135 million children were born ,and less than 10 million of them died before the age of 5.The key reason we are able to do it was not only the rising incomes,but also our constant fight with the ghost of disease,war and poverty.In a word ,it’s our love that makes the difference.So,what philanthropy is?Remember,philanthropy is about giving of time and talent,not just money.We give our love and we will change the world and make tomorrow better than today.。
