I. 基本结构“形容词/副词比较级+than 分句” The parcel is heavier than that one.This car runs faster than that one.否定结构可用less…than表示This parcel is less heavy than that one.This car runs less fast than that one.也可用not so/as… as表示This parcel is not so/as heavy as that one.This car doesn’t run so/as fast as that one.Less…than结构的使用没有not so/as…as频繁more…than结构的另一种模式是：more/less/fewer+名词＋than 分句She has written more essays than he.I spend less money on clothing than my sister.There are fewer visitors today than yesterday.More…than结构也有其变体形式，其中之一是：形比较级 + 名 + thanJohn is a more efficient worker than Jack.My brother has a larger house than mine.以上例子可转换为名词词组＋more…than结构作后置修饰语John is a worker more efficient than Jack.另一种变体形式是the + 形比较级 + of + the twoJohn is the brighter of the two boys.Of the two boys John behaves (the) more politely. 补充说明1) more…than…还可用在同一个人或物不同的比较He is more a writer than an artist.是…而不是，与其说是…不如说是She is more keen than wise. John is more daring than quick-minded.这种情况下只能使用more，不能使用erIt is much more a political crisis than an economic crisis.上述结构也可用于less…than，得出相反含义。

He was less hurt than frightened.John is less daring than quick-witted.2)not more/er than与 no more/er than试比较：John is not better than Tom.John is no better than Tom.前一例表示“约翰不比汤姆好”，属于普通比较结构；后一例中no better than 相当于as bad as，含义是两人一样坏no richer than = as poor asno bigger than = as small as区分：I have not taken more than six courses this semester.I have taken no more than six courses this semester.上述结构与no more …than = not any more than又有所不同A whale is no more a fish than a horse is.3）more than 1> 用于数词之前More than 1000 people attended the meeting.有“多的惊人”之意，如无此意，可用over2> more than 不止， 超过 She is more than pretty.她何止是漂亮。
