No one in the 1940s could imagine that computer technology will develop so fast, nor can anyone predict that computers can play so important a role in our everyday life like the present. With computers being so widely made use of, languages associated with computers are spreading among people like crazy. However, in describing activities and objects about this new realm, people are met with difficulties, for there are no words or languages there to describe them based on people’s previous experience. Thus, metaphors are naturally applied in this specific field. As the first computers are invented by Americans and the languages used is English. Nowadays, technology and culture communication between countries have become more and more easy and China have to explore what the outside world can offer. So China has to translate most of the English for Science and Technology (EST) into Chinese. In the translating of of EST, people may encounter many metaphors. How to translate these words and expressions will eventually affect how people understand the science and technology. In this paper, the author tries analyze how metaphors can be used in computer English and tries to find a better way to translate them. The author finds that Conceptual Integration Theory (CIT) proposed by Fauconnier in 1985 can be applied to analyze metaphor translation. The Conceptual Integration Theory elaborates four basic mental spaces and has become a major focus for people to do cognitive research. Based on the theoretical framework proposed above, the author collects his data from text books and dictionaries for computer English and the study commences. In analyzing the three main sources of metaphors in EST, the author brings forward three basic translation strategies, namely “meaning translation”, “pronunciation translation” and “image translation”. What should also be mentioned is that the author has also pointed out some other factors that might affect the metaphor translation of computer English. In this thesis, the author tries to figure out his own ways of metaphor translation based on the study of Fauconnier’s Conceptual Integration Theory. Hopefully, the method proposed by the author can shed some light on metaphor translation for professional translators, computer fans and IT professionals. 1940年代,没有人可以想象得出如今电脑技术可以发展如此之快,也没有人可以预测到如今电脑在人们生活中所发挥得如此重要的作用由于计算机的普遍使用,与之有关的语言的传播也疯狂地进行但是,在描述这个领域的行为和事物时,人们经常会遇到困难,因为在人们的经验中没有这些单词和语言因此,隐喻就自然被应用到这个领域由于第一批计算机是美国发明的,所以与之相关的语言就是英语现在,各个国家之间技术和文化交流越来越频繁,中国也亟须从国外学习新技术所以,科技英语汉译在中国重要性还是很大的在翻译科技英语的时候,人们可能会遇到很多隐喻的问题怎样翻译这些词汇和表达最终将影响人们怎样理解科学和技术本论文中,笔者分析了计算机英语中的隐喻,并试图找到优化隐喻翻译的方法笔者发现,1985年福柯尼耶提出“概念整合”理论可以用来分析科技英语中的隐喻概念整合理论有四个基本的心理空间,而且业已变成人们进行认知研究的一个主要关注对象根据上文构建的理论框架,作者从计算机技术教科书和词典里面收集数据,本研究就展开了在分析科技英语隐喻的三个主要来源后,笔者提出了三种基本的翻译策略,即“按意翻译”、“按音翻译”、“按形翻译”值得一提的是,笔者也指出其他可能影响计算机英语隐喻翻译的因素。
