MIMO ?? ????? ??????? ???? ??AbstractIIIAbstractPhased-MIMO radar combines the advantages of the MIMO radar(such aswaveform diversity) with the advantages of the phased-array radar(such as coherentprocessing). Its transmit array is divided into a number of subarrays that are allowed tooverlap. Each subarray is used to coherently transmit a waveform which is orthogonalto the waveforms transmitted by other subarrays. Coherent processing gain can beachieved by designing the weight vector of each subarray to form a beam towards acertain direction in space(the same direction for all subarrays). In the meanwhile, thesubarrays are combined jointly to form a MIMO radar resulting in higher angularresolution capabilities.On the one hand, compared to the phased-array radar, phased-MIMO radar enablesimproving angular resolution, increasing the upper limit on the number of detectabletargets, improving parameter identifiability, extending the array aperture by virtualsensors and enhancing the flexibility for transmit/receive beampattern design. On theother hand, as compared to the MIMO radar, phased-MIMO radar enjoys the transmitcoherent processing gain, less beam-shape loss which leads to performance degradationin the presence of the target’s RCS fading and more signal to noise ratio(SNR) gain.Our paper first introduces the signal model of phased-MIMO radar, then discussesthe issue ofadaptive beamforming, includingoptimaladaptive beamforming?Full-MVDR?, dimension reduced adaptive beamforming based on eigenspace,dimension reduced adaptive beamforming based on selecting two-dimensional partialbeam and two sidedminimum-variance distrotionless responsebeamforming(TS-MVDR). During the above process, we present the performance ofphased-MIMO radar on different circumstances by all kinds of experiments. In the end,we give the likelihood ratio test(LRT) detector of phased-MIMO radar.
