1、Page 1 of 8 Scoring Scheme for Competitive University Scholarships for 2014 Australian Postgraduate Award APA JCU Postgraduate Research Scholarships JCU PRS International Postgraduate Research Scholarships IPRS Research higher degree HDR scholarship applications are scored to provide a basis on which to allocate centrally and government funded competitive scholarships APA JCUPRS and IPRS The scoring is based on three main areas 1 Essential Criteria a set of criteria including a score for Grade P

2、oint Average GPA performance in the final year of study that specifies the conditions that must be met for a student to be eligible for a scholarship 2 Research Record of the applicant which takes into consideration previous qualifications completed performance in these qualifications and any research outputs such as publications 3 Research Training Environment a consideration of the academic support that will be provided to the student based predominantly on the performance of the supervisory t

3、eam More information about each of these three areas and the scoring system is provided below The Head of School and Faculty have the opportunity to modify the initial scoring done by the Graduate Research School however the final score for scholarships is determined by the Research Education Sub Committee 1 Essential Criteria i Students meet the entry requirements for the relevant research degree ii An RTS place has been allocated for the applicant domestic applicants only iii The School has th

4、e minimum resources required for the project as per JCU policy and guaranteed adequate funding for the project of the applicant iv The applicant has at least a Credit grade or equivalent for their final full time year of coursework study or equivalent with a score for GPA determined by the GRS v The applicant is not in receipt of major stipend funding 75 of APA rate for the same research program vi The applicant will be based on campus unless formal approval has been granted for off campus statu

5、s vii An IELTS score of at least 7 overall with no component 6 5 where applicable 2 Research Record all applicants i The applicant s previous qualification and performance in this qualification ii The applicant s research publications iii Other evidence of achievement research training or circumstances 3 Research Training Environment all applicants i The HDR completions of the Advisory Team Page 2 of 8 ii The research outputs of the Advisory Team iii The most recent JCU ERA ranking of the FOR of

6、 the project Advisors listed for the Advisory Team can only be listed as Primary Advisor on a total of three applications for a given scholarship round and must not be currently supervising seven or more students as a Primary Advisor Exceptions to these rules must be justified in writing by the Head of School e g Advisor has i several students nearing completion ii a research only position iii several postdoctoral staff who can assist with supervision or iv grant money that provides increased ca

7、pacity for HDR students How the Score is Calculated At the end of the scoring process all applicants will have a score out of a total of 50 This final score is made up of three components as per below Component Determined by Maximum Score GPA Calculated on final year of coursework and converted to a rank out of 10 10 Research Record The degree obtained by the applicant and their performance in that degree e g B Hons Class I A HERDC eligible publications Additional score for excellence e g recipi

8、ent of national research award 25 Research Training Environment The score for the identified Primary and Secondary Co Advisor calculated from HDR completions HERDC output and ERA ranking for the area of the project 15 TOTAL 50 This gives a weighting of 70 30 for the applicants academic and research record relative to the research training environment Initial scoring of GPA and Research Record will be undertaken by the GRS The relevant School will then undertake additional scoring publications re

9、search training environment and may make a case for altering a score where appropriate The relevant Faculty will review the scoring done by its Schools however the Research Education Sub Committee will have the final say on all scores and any alterations recommended Below is an explanation of how the scores for each category are calculated 1 GPA max 10 GPA for each applicant is calculated on the basis of the marks grades obtained in the final year of full time coursework study usually 8 subjects
