D00N0040 Issue 2 Page 2 of 3 ? 1.1 This test is applicable to naturally aspirated and turbo charged Diesel and gasoline engines. 1.2 To test specifically the durability of the piston to cracking caused by a combination of high cycle and low cycle thermal fatigue. In addition cylinder head, exhaust manifold and turbo, which are also susceptible to low and high cycle fatigue failures, are tested. ? 2.1 The test involves a specific cycle with set points at Rated speed (105% load for Diesel engines) and low idle. Slight overload is used to protect for production tolerances. 2.2 The engine is run throughout the test in a fully warm condition. 2.3 This cycle should be run in conjunction with procedure D00 N 0070 which defines the preparation, test and assessment guideline. 2.4 ?
