,Poetry apprecitaion,To autumn,There are five kinds of image which were used in the poem To Autumn,Tactile image (first, second and third stanzas) Visual image ( first and second stanzas) Gustatory image(first stanza) Olfactory image(second stanza) Auditory image (third stanza),First stanza: Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; Conspiring with him how to load and bless With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run; 藤蔓环绕屋檐 To bend with apples the mossd cottage-trees, 苹果压弯树枝 And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core; To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells 葫芦鼓起,榛子丰满 With a sweet kernel; to set budding more, And still more, later flowers for the bees, Until they think warm days will never cease, For Summer has oer-brimmd their clammy cells.,Visual image: thatch-eves, apples, gourd, hazel shells, later flowers, bees. Tactile image: load and bless, round, bend, fill, swell, plump. Gustatory image: sweet kernel, ripeness to core.,The first stanza is the description of the natural scenery,sky(maturing sun),tatch,tree,field(later flowers and bees,The sun “load and bless“ by ripening the fruit. The apples are so numerous that their weight bends the trees. The gourds “swell,“ and the hazel nuts “plump.“ “sweet kernel“ and “ripeness to the core“ indicates fruits maturation later flowers did not bud in summer but in autumn, so the bees incessantly working.,spatial order:,a colorful picture of autumn with fruitness.,Second stanza: Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store? Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find Thee sitting careless on a granary floor, Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind; Or on a half-reapd furrow sound asleep, Drowsd with the fume of poppies, while thy hook Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers: And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep Steady thy laden head across a brook; Or by a cyder-press, with patient look, Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.,visual image: thee sitting careless on a granary floor, hair, half-reap'd furrow, twined flowers, the last oozings. olfactory image: the fumme of poppies. tactile image: soft-lifted, winnowing wind,sound asleep,The second stanza is the description of the harvest in autumn.,The second stanza presents the personification of autumn as the harvester who was sitting on the grannary floor and sleeping on the half-reap'd furrow. which indicates a warm picture of harvest. “thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind“: autumn was personified as a beautiful woman. “drows'd with the fume of poppies“: olfactory image.The fragrance of the poppy was so strong that readers can almost feel it.,Third stanza Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they? Think not of them, thou hast thy music too, While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day, And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue; Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn Among the river sallows, borne aloft Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies; And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn; Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;(红胸知更鸟的啼啭) And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.,auditory image: gnats mourn, loud bleat, hedge-crickets sing, red-breast whistles, gathering swallows twitter. tactile image: borne aloft,The main image of the third stanzas is auditory image. ig:gnats mourn (蠓蚋的悲歌),lambs loud bleat (羊群的咩咩叫),Hedge-crickets sing(蟋蟀的鸣唱), The red-breast whistles (红胸知更鸟的啼啭), gathering swallows twitter(燕子的呢喃). Through various creatures, the autumn was specified. However, the sound was “wailful“, and animals mourned the departure of autumn.,The third stanza described the sound in autumn,t,Comprehension,the progression of time,t,Comprehension,After reading the poem To Autumn, the author deals with the presence of nature and how autumn itself is more significant than any of the other seasons.
