In this thesis, four kinds of power system short-circuit faults which contain three-phase short circuit, single-phase to ground, the two-phase short circuit and two-phase short circuit to ground are analyzed. And build a simulation model by MATLAB / Simulink simulation software, the simulation of the four kinds of short circuit fault plots the voltage and current waveforms and decomposed by a phase of positive sequence, negative sequence and zero sequence components of short-circuit voltage and current using three-phase sequence analyzer.As the result, theoretical analysis is Consistent with simulation. By comparing the current waveforms of different faults, the short-circuit point current of three-phase short-circuit fault is the maximum, and three-phase short-circuit fault the worst damage ; By comparing the sequence pomponent waveforms of different faults,single-phase to ground and two-phase short circuit to ground contain positive sequence, negative sequence and zero sequence components; two-phase short circuit contains only positive sequence and negative sequence components. At last, the common method of short circuit current detection is introduced, and the method of short circuit current detection using negative sequence and zero sequence component is studied. The research shows that the method of detecting negative sequence components is ideal for the degree and rapidity of the reaction.Keywords:Power system;Fault analysis;MATLAB simulation;Sequence component;Detection techn
