Swinburne Research Scholarship Ranking Information for Students Scholarship Ranking Information for Students Page 2 of 7 Selection Principles The scholarship selection process is designed to utilise a broad definition of merit taking into account the academic cultures of different disciplines and be consistent with procedures already in place for student selection Eligibility to Apply for a Research Doctorate Scholarship New Applicants potential students All applicants seeking a research scholarship must meet the doctoral candidature entry requirements including any conditions and the provision of all required documentation see next page Applicants who have been nominated by their faculty for a scholarship previously are not eligible to reapply with the exception of those applicants who were nominated in ONE round previous to the current round Applicants who apply for the first time in a round will also be eligible to apply in ONE other round This means that in total applicants may only apply in two scholarship rounds Applicants seeking a Chancellor s Research Scholarship Vice Chancellor s Research Scholarship International Postgraduate Research Scholarship IPRS or Australian Postgraduate Award APA must show evidence of an H1 Honours result or equivalent Applicants seeking a SUPRA must show evidence of an H1 or H2A Honours result or equivalent For information regarding Honours equivalence see page 6 or refer to the Application for Candidature and Scholarship form available online at http www research swinburne edu au research students forms Current Students Current students must be enrolled in a PhD program and must have been enrolled in an HDR program for less than two years as at the closing date of the round in which the student is applying Applicants who have been nominated by their faculty for a scholarship previously are not eligible to reapply with the exception of those applicants who were nominated in ONE round previous to the current round Applicants who apply for the first time in a round will also be eligible to apply in ONE other round This means that in total applicants may only apply in two scholarship rounds Applicants seeking a Chancellor s Research Scholarship Vice Chancellor s Research Scholarship International Postgraduate Research Scholarship IPRS or Australian Postgraduate Award APA must show evidence of an H1 Honours result or equivalent Applicants seeking a SUPRA must show evidence of an H1 or H2A Honours result or equivalent For information regarding Honours equivalence see page 6 or refer to the Application for Candidature and Scholarship form available online at http www research swinburne edu au research students forms Scholarship Ranking Information for Students Page 3 of 7 Eligibility for Entry to Candidature Degree Eligibility All research degrees International applicants must meet at least one of the following English language requirements a minimum IELTS overall band of 6 5 Academic Module with no individual band below 6 0 or a TOEFL equivalent for equivalence refer to the Swinburne International website or satisfactory completion of the Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes EAP Advanced level certificate at the postgraduate level EAP 5 PG 70 or have successfully completed a total of 24 months full time equivalent of formal study where the language of instruction and assessment was English at AQF level 7 or above or equivalent at an approved university All international applicants who present with an IELTS or TOEFL qualification as outlined above must have completed the qualifying test no greater than 24 months prior to submitting their application for scholarship and candidature All international applicants who present with previous studies in English as outlined above must have completed the studies no greater than 60 months prior to submitting their application for scholarship and candidature Note International onshore students must be enrolled on a full time basis In order to be eligible for consideration in any scholarship round international students must have met the English language requirement by the application closing date for that particular round Normally all scholarship recipients must be enrolled on a full time basis There are limited circumstances in which part time enrolment may be considered Applicants should refer to the relevant scholarship guidelines booklet for further information No concurrent enrolments are allowed PhD Applicants must have completed at least four years or equivalent of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement For example either a a four year degree or b a three year degree and a Masters by Research or c a three year degree and an Honours year or d a three year degree and a Masters by Coursework that includes a research component with a duration of at least one semester full time or part time equivalent or e a three year degree and a postgraduate diploma in Psychology Professional doctorates Refer to specifi
