Unfortunately none of his works has survived to the modern- day, but according to one source, during a painting competition the grapes he painted were so realistic that birds flew down and began eating them. Zeuxis eventually died while in the process of painting Aphrodite. The woman who had asked him to paint insisted on modelling for the painting; Zeuxis found the painting so funny that he died laughing at it.
